Thanksgiving Leftovers Week: Cranberry Turkey Grilled Cheese
If Thanksgiving was held at your house, you likely have a ton of leftovers taking over your fridge. While Thanksgiving foods are undeniably delicious, you don’t necessarily want to eat Thanksgiving dinner every night for a week. That means it’s time to get creative!
I don’t normally include meats in my grilled cheese sandwiches. I feel like once you start adding too many ingredients it veers too close to panini territory (which are yummy but their own thing). However, in an effort to use up Thanksgiving leftovers I made an exception this time. I contemplated adding stuffing as well, but feared it would be too bready, and also would take too long to warm up in the middle, and result in burnt bread.
Leftovers utilized: turkey, cranberry sauce
Cheat Code: Roasting Jack O’lantern Pumpkin Seeds
It’s that time of year again. It’s almost Halloween, which means it’s time for witches, ghosts, goblins, and jack o’lanterns! Pumpkins and jack o’lanterns are some of the best Halloween decorations because they look nice and fun, but are also food! That’s right, all that gloop you pull out of your pumpkin to carve it has a bonus snack hidden within. Pumpkin seeds! Pumpkin seeds are a good snack because they’re a good source of protein, fiber, vitamin E and vitamin B. They also contain the good fats that can help lower cholesterol. So you could definitely think twice before just throwing all those seeds out. But before eating them you need to roast them.
The Cereal Report: Millville Blueberry Crunch
The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!
Recently, an Aldi supermarket opened nearby us and we’ve started doing a lot of grocery shopping there due to their super delightful prices. Recently we picked up the following cereal:
Much to my own pleasant surprise, this turned out to be one of my new favorite cereals, and not just because it only cost $2 bucks.
Food 101: How To Make Tempura
So we recently covered frying chicken cutlets, and how it’s pretty much the best thing ever. Today we bring you more coverage of fried chicken in the form of tempura, and how to make it. However, this isn’t the traditional fried cutlet I wrote about in my last post; rather this is a bit more exotic, though still delicious in its own right. Chicken tempura is actually closer to a chicken finger than a chicken cutlet. But hey, they’re all great, so who cares? Tempura is delicious, cheap, and the batter is the easiest recipe on Earth to remember. It has three ingredients. I shit you not, three. Since when does anything delicious have only three ingredients?!
Cheat Codes: Ice Pops without Popsicle Molds
Ice pops are a beloved summer-time treat. They’re cold and refreshing on hot summer days. It’s always nice to keep some ice pops in the freezer during the summer. The problem I’ve continually had with store bought variety fruit flavor ice pop packs is that there’s almost always at least one flavor I don’t like (usually grape). This usually results in either leaving them in the freezer until they’re really old and gross so I ultimately throw them out, or pushing them off on to someone else. Whichever the case it seem like you should be able to have the ice pop flavors you want. And you can! Ice pops are super easy to make at home. Allow me to show you how.
