Pizza Lab #47: Smokey Autumn Squash Pizza

As the Fall draws to a close and we all curse under our breath about the impending cold, let’s take one dip into the pool of delicious Autumnal foodstuffs. Pizza Lab has experimented with pumpkins before, but to avoid repetitiveness we went for a more alternate take on the edible gourd, and used a butternut squash instead. There was a point where we actually had trouble thinking up an overarching theme besides just “Fall” but we eventually decided to toss in some smokey flavors since it seemed like a nice complement. Oh, and also because we recently bought a food smoker and smoked meats are reeeeeeally good.

Smoothie Sunday: Pumpkin Oatmeal Smoothie

It’s now officially fall which means it’s seasonally appropriate to start eating pumpkin again!  It also means that Smoothie Sunday is coming to a close for the year.  But they’ll be back again next year!  But for now we’re winding down with a yummy fall themed smoothie.  I’ve made a couple of smoothies that use overnight oatmeal before, and that makes up the base of this smoothie as well.  It does require a bit of advanced planning (I myself actually almost forgot to get the oatmeal ready last night) but it’s worth it.  This smoothie is super creamy and really filling.  It’s a nice hearty smoothie to get you through those early fall mornings.

PSA: Hold It!! Do NOT Throw Out Your Pumpkins! They’re Literally Food.

Alright, maybe this seems a bit obvious to people out there who cook with pumpkin at home. But tragically, year after year we see the most despicable of Fall-crimes: throwing away pumpkins.

I dare you to tell these guys they’re actual garbage. I frigging triple-dog dare you.

But let us make this very clear, here: pumpkins are FOOD. They’re not just decorations. They’re a healthy, delicious foodstuff that you can use as decorations, but that’s the best part, after they’re done you can freaking eat these things!

The Cereal Report: Kellogg’s Pumpkin Spice Special K

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

Hot on the heels of one of the first pumpkin-spice themed cereals we’ve run into, Kellogg’s has their own Fall variant as well, in the form of perennial old-person breakfast: Special K. Considering the deluge of limited edition pumpkin-flavored foods doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, so we may as well get used to it at this point…

The Cereal Report: Pumpkin Spice Cheerios

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

Fall is on the way, everyone! And with every Autumnal equinox comes a plethora of limited edition pumpkin spice variants of foods. We’ve seen cookies, coffee, drinks, etc… but someone new is taking a crack at the annual craze. This year, we saw the arrival of Pumpkin Spice Cheerios, which if I recall correctly is the first time a cereal brand has harnessed the power of pumpkin pie spice. As always, I’m always a little skeptical of almost all pumpkin spice editions of foods and drinks because it’s such a quick and dirty cash-in, and frequently isn’t even that good.

That said, let’s give Cheerios the benefit of the doubt. Afterall, they’re a venerable cereal that puts on a persona of wholesomeness and doesn’t typically use wacky gimmicks to rope people into buying it.
