Smoothie Sunday: Anti-oxidant Power Smoothie

You hear a lot about antioxidants but you don’t hear very often what they actually are.  Antioxidants are molecules that prevent the oxidation of other molecules.  This is important because oxidation can produce free radicals, and too many free radicals can set off a chain reaction that may damage cells.  How good antioxidants are for you is in debate (as is almost every health related thing it seems) but keeping the oxidative state in your body balanced is important, if nothing else.  The body likes homeostasis.  I decided to call this smoothie the Antioxidant Power Smoothie because blueberries, pomegranates and cocoa are all fairly high in antioxidants.  Surprisingly this was my first time adding chocolate to a smoothie, probably because I generally don’t like having chocolate for breakfast.  But this smoothie turned out really yummy and wasn’t overpoweringly chocolate-y.  Scientists can argue about how good this smoothie may or may not be for you, but your taste buds will all agree that it’s delicious!

Pizza Lab #46: Butterfingers Pizza

Though it’s being posted late, this was October’s Pizza Lab.  Since October’s main event is Halloween and we were due for a dessert pizza, we decided to take our inspiration from Halloween candy.  We’re both huge fans of the chocolate/peanut butter combination so we tend to return to it frequently.  Butterfingers and Reese’s are both at the top of my list of favorite candies.  Since we’ve already done a Reese’s peanut butter cup inspired pizza, we turned instead to Butterfingers.  We decided pretty quickly that we wanted to use Butterfingers, but figuring out what else to put on the pizza took a bit more time.  Obviously chocolate and peanut butter would be involved somehow.  But just putting chocolate, peanut butter and chopped up Butterfingers on would be a bit too similar to the Reese’s pizza.  We had to get more creative.

The Snack Report: Breyer’s Ice Cream Cake Ice Cream

My name is Erik S. and I have a confession to make.

I don’t actually really like ice cream cake all that much.

There, I said it. I said it, I can’t take it back, and I regret nothing. But before the ice cream heavens rain fiery vengeance upon me, let me say in my defense that while I don’t dislike ice cream cake, I just vastly prefer regular-ass ice cream, and think the cake form is overrated.

Okay, still not good enough? Well luckily, I found some middle ground for everyone out there torn between ice cream and ice cream cake:

The Snack Report: Crunchie Bar

You know it’s the damnedest thing. For some reason over the past 6 months of my life, I have just been craving the shit out of chocolate. Not necessarily junk chocolate you impulse-buy near the register… moreso the finer chocolate confections in life. Stuff like dark chocolate, hot cocoa, high-quality chocolate rabbits, chocolate-covered-everything, etc… And I never really liked chocolate that much, growing up. I never disliked it, but I always made fun of those hokey expressions like “I’m a chocoholic” or “Chocolate makes everything better.”
To be fair, I still make fun of them, but holy hell I cannot shake this craving. If I didn’t know any better I’d say I’m pregnant. (If Meg and I didn’t hate children. Oh and also, there’s the me being a dude part). Lo and behold, we happened upon a fun, little tea shop recently that had Crunchie Bars in stock. I’ve vaguely heard of them in passing, but never actually ate one since they’re not usually sold in the Americas. And man, with top-tier chocolate companies like Cadbury being over there, Europe is freaking spoilllllled.

Shhh… don’t tell anyone this wasn’t for resale. HONEST. IT’S NOT OUR FAULT.
