The Cereal Report: Froot Loops Treasures

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

Froot Loops is a tragic cereal. Don’t get me wrong, I really like them, but they fall into that group of kid cereals that get a bad rep due to their fairly high sugar content. Some cereals are pretty stupendously caloriffic, but Froot Loops isn’t particularly bad, featuring only 150 calories per serving with milk. It’s not really that bad for you, especially considering the sugars themselves are just plain sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, so a lot of the stigma comes from the fact they are pretty damn sweet-tasting. And I suppose sweetness isn’t for everybody, so let the people who dislike flavor stick to their plain Cheerios, but do not hold it against those of us who do enjoy partaking in sugary cereals for breakfast. (Because guess what, when you add sugar and fruits to your plain cereal, you’re not really making them that less sugary than Froot Loops.)

But I must digress, Froot Loops caught my eye the other day in the store when I saw a new iteration of them, Froot Loops Treasures.

The Snack Report: Stacy’s Pretzel Thins

Pretzels are an awesome snack.  We even made a pizza out of them!  Part of the reason for pretzels’ high rank in snackdom is just because they taste good.  But another part is because there are so many pretzel options.  They can be hard and crunchy, or soft and chewy.  They can be salty or sweet (or both at the same time!).  They can be big or small.  Even just within hard pretzels there are numerous shapes and sizes.  Today we’ll be focusing on the flat pretzel thins.

Snack Report: Chips Ahoy! Ice Cream Creations – Mint Chocolate Chip

Cookies and ice cream – dessert favorites of 5 and 75 year olds alike. I mean, who doesn’t love cookies and ice cream (besides maybe people with Celiac’s and people who are lactose intolerant. A moment of silence for you.)? Cookies long ago entered the world of ice cream though flavors like chocolate chip cookie dough and cookies and cream. Now Chips Ahoy! is bringing ice cream to the world of cookies with their new Ice Cream Creations flavor cookies. I recently tried one of these new cookies.

It’s not everyday you see a new rendition of the Toast Crunch cereals. Lo and behold however, with the new year comes Chocolate Toast Crunch. People like Cinnamon Toast Crunch, people love chocolate, so Chocolate Toast Crunch should be a given right? Afterall the last one, Peanut Butter Toast Crunch was fantastic and the original Cinnamon sets a very high standard for its successors. Unfortunately Chocolate Toast Crunch is one of the weaker entries in this cherished line.

The Cereal Report: Hershey’s Cookies ‘n’ Creme Cereal

It’s been a long, brutal Winter. Fortunately Spring is on its way soon! Probably! To be honest, who the frig knows at this point. The vernal equinox is a day away, and it’s still below freezing here in New York. I give up. No matter, as springtime tends to be a time when cereal companies begin releasing new products, or so I’ve noticed over the years. Both brand new cereals, and limited runs from the past year or so, find their way onto stores, which I imagine might be something to do with the fact that people probably tend to eat more hot cereals during winter months. Either way, it’s an exciting time of year for the budding cereal enthusiast or anyone with an inner child. It may be obnoxiously cold outside, but that didn’t stop me from locating some new cereals to review. Just the other day, Meg and I stumbled onto this exciting, little treasure:
