Food 101: How To Make A Homemade Quesadilla
The grilled cheese sandwich. It’s a classic. Everyone’s eaten one at some point in their life, provided they’re in a financially stable enough position to afford sandwiches (those who aren’t, let us hold a moment of silence for them). The combination of cheese and bread is simple enough, and yet it is closely related to another all-time favorite: the quesadilla.
Little do you realize these two mystical food items are actually closely related, near one in the same. Think about it, now. The grilled cheese is two slices of bread with cheese inside, grilled to melt the cheese. A quesadilla is two tortillas with cheese inside, grilled to melt the cheese. Whoaaaaa, it’salmostlikethey’rehtesamethinggg!!
Who wants to make one? Yeah, everyone does.
Food 101: How To Make Homemade Potato Pancakes / Latkes Easy
It’s long been a tradition in my family that come Christmastime, my parents have family and friends over for a traditional German meal. One thing that always confused me however was the addition of homemade potato pancakes, also known as latkes. Generally most people associate them with Hannukah and Jewish people. Not for nothin’, but we’re all Christian in my family, so I never really got the connection. Fast-forward to me being an adult and having a more worldly view of, well, the world; I discovered that potato pancakes actually share a pretty wide open history, being eaten by lots of cultures. Specifically, Germany has a big history of eating potato pancakes. Suddenly, everything made sense to me. And by everything, I mean the fact my parents were serving them at a German meal. No matter whether you’re Jewish or German or whatever, latkes are delicious. Spoilers: They’re also incredibly easy to make.
Food 101: Simple Icing
The right icing can enhance any baked good, and a bad icing can make a cake almost inedible. At least in my own experience, icing almost always better homemade. Yet icing/frosting (depending on your preferred term) is one of those foods that can range from incredibly easy to complicated to make, depending on the specific type. Luckily for us, simple icing/glaze is super easy and you likely already have all the ingredients on hand.
Quick Recipe: Gingerbread Pancakes
Gingerbread men are a Christmas favorite cookie. What you may not be aware of though, is that gingerbread itself is actually a type of baked good similar to pumpkin bread. I know, right? Ginger-bread. Holy shit! But revelations aside, they taste pretty much the same as gingerbread cookies that we all know and love. If you’re aiming to capture that flavor but don’t want to make a whole tray of cookies, or an entire loaf of bread, there is one alternative: gingerbread pancakes.
Quick Recipe: Chicken Jalfrezi
We’ve talked curries before, here at PCFG. And for good reason too; they’re delicious one-pot dishes that are cheap and easy to make, with very little clean up. This recipe for chicken jalfrezi is a bit similar to chicken tikka masala, however the curry sauce it produces is a lot thicker and chunkier, almost similar to chicken cacciatore. It also packs a little more of a spicy kick to it, unlike chicken tikka, though this can be adjusted to your liking by omitting the chipotle peppers, or adding your own chilli peppers and spices.
