Smoothie Sunday: Pumpkin Peach Smoothie

Well, this is the last Sunday in September, which means by this time next week it will be October. Which also means it’s the start of pumpkin season!  Let this smoothie help you transition into fall.  I used the pumpkin similar to how I used the avocado in the avocado mango smoothie a couple of weeks ago.  And like that smoothie it came out pretty thick.  But it’s definitely yummy, and a nice intro into fall breakfasts.

Pizza Lab #22: Grilled Pineapple Pizza

Well, it’s officially Fall. We’ve been trying to wring out every ounce left of this Summer, for all it had left. The past few weeks have been busy, but Meg A. and I still managed to fit in one last summery Pizza Lab. Of course at this point it’s become a running joke since every time we try to grill a pizza, we tend to misjudge our time and end up grilling in the dark. This time we vowed to avoid that and finally do a barbecue grill pizza during daylight hours!

We were not successful.

However despite our scheduling ineptitude we managed to put together a really tasty, unique pie that certainly was a good way to see off the end of the summertime. Here’s Pizza Lab #22, Grilled Pineapple Pizza!

Recipe Time: Garlic-ade / Garlic Lemonade!

As many of you know, Meg and I sold our delicious garlicade at the Long Island Garlic Festival last weekend. I know what you’re thinking, it sounds gross, but truth be told it actually tastes really good. And that’s not just because Meg and I love garlic either, it’s legit yummy. As one customer put it, “It tastes like lemonade, but it smells like grandma’s house!” Actually that’s probably the best way to describe it since it does carry that heavy pungent garlic stank we all know and love, but has most of the flavor of lemonade. If you’ve ever made lemon garlic chicken in the oven, this tastes pretty much like the juice in the pan, only sweet and cool and refreshing! Don’t be a pansy-ass, try it! You might like it!

Quick Recipe: Grilled Garlic Naan

For those of you coming to this recipe after seeing our cooking demo at the Long Island Garlic Festival this past weekend, welcome! We’re glad you liked our demo/free samples enough to try making this recipe yourself.  I hope you’ll check out and try some of our other recipes as well.

Most people’s experience with naan is from eating it in Indian restaurants. Naan is a leavened flatbread that originated in Asia.  Traditionally it is baked in a clay oven called a tandoor, but since we, and I’m assuming most of you, don’t have a tandoor we’ve taken to cooking it on the grill.  And if you don’t have a grill, or the weather isn’t conducive to grilling outdoors, you can also use a cast iron grill pan.  Trust me –  you’re going to want to find a way to make this naan.  It’s garlicky, and buttery, and delicious.   And it goes great with chicken tikka.

Smoothie Sunday: Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal Smoothie

The last oatmeal smoothie I made turned out really yummy, so I wanted to give another one a shot. Again, I used overnight oatmeal as a base.  This time I decided to use more traditional oatmeal additions in the form of cinnamon apple.  Since I don’t have a super-mega blender I knew that blending fresh apples would be rather difficult.  So instead I opted to use dried apples, rehydrated in the oatmeal overnight.  It worked out really well.  I also upped the apple flavor by adding applesauce.  Overall it was another successful oatmeal smoothie!
