Food 102: How To Boil Water

Let’s talk water. Water is the greatest sustainable resource on planet Earth. It’s everywhere. I’m water, you’re water, everything is water. 98% of our planet is made of water, and every single tree, animal, mushroom, and rock need it to sustain life. Studies show that drinking a cup of water per day can reduce your risk of sexually transmitted diseases by as high as 85%! So yes, water is, as they say, “bitchin”. But there’s only so much we can do with plain old, standing water. Did you know that you can turn water into a gas as well? It’s true. This process of water being converted from liquid to gas is a simple term known as “magic”. It may seem intimidating at first, but you can practice this mysterious water magic at home using common kitchen supplies and sheer willpower. Shall we begin?

Youtube Video: Quiet Cooking – Fried Rice

So in case you haven’t heard, Poor Couple’s Food Guide is officially on Youtube now! We’ve already posted quite a few videos on there for you to enjoy, and look forward to getting our content to you in video form as well. BUT don’t worry! The Youtube channel is not going to be a replacement for PCFG on the web. Nothing will ever be exclusive to our videos, and we will continue to bring you a few posts per week like we always have. None of that will change! Our Youtube vids will simply be a supplement to the already existing content on the site, which will never go away. Which brings me to our latest video…

One of our series we’re debuting on the channel is a line we like to call Quiet Cooking. Ever feel the need for some nice, ambient, background noises? Some people take solace in the sounds of the kitchen, finding it to be very soothing. If you’re one of those people who just loves to sit back and enjoy some good environmental soundscapes like that, you’ll be pleased to know we here at PCFG are lookin’ out for you. These videos are not just for relaxing though! We’ll still use them as a means to give tips and tutorials on cooking, including a full recipe. So check out this premiere episode of Quiet Cooking. And if you’re the type of person into relaxation videos or ASMR or ambient noise, we do have an extended version of the video that’s a full 22 minutes long on our channel. Enjoy!

The Snack Report: White Strawberry Shortcake M&Ms

When I saw that M&Ms had a limited edition flavor that was out for Easter, I figured what better to post this week than a review of them?  For some reason this flavor is exclusive to Target, which actually has apparently happened before but I’m just now finding out about.  In doing some digging it seems that M&Ms has released a few different seasonal flavors to Target in the past.  I am now kind of upset that I missed out on some potentially awesome limited edition M&Ms.  But I found out about these ones!  And since we happened to be driving past a Target the other day, I managed to obtain a package.  They’re definitely being marketed as a spring/Easter candy since the green M&M is wearing bunny ears (unless it’s all some sort of elaborate Playboy ad, but I doubt it).  Other than the pastel colors I’m not entirely sure why they chose to make this flavor for Easter.  Strawberry shortcake is much more of an early summer dessert, when strawberries are in season than it is a spring one.  Seasonally appropriate nitpicking aside, let’s find out how these M&Ms taste.

Pizza Lab #40: Birthday Cake Pizza

Alright guys. We’ve done some zany shit involving pizzas, before. I’ll admit it. We’ve hit some Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle joke-levels of wackiness with Pizza Lab. We’ve done curry pizza, chicken & waffles pizza, cheesecake pizza, and all sorts of other insane mashups. But we have once again managed to outdo ourselves with a pizza so delightfully out-there, that it actually kind of demolishes out-there and flies far, far beyond it. I present to you: Birthday Cake Pizza.

The Snack Report: Russell Stover Key Lime Whip Egg

There’s a bit of a tradition here at Poor Couple’s Food Guide where, the week after Easter we go to the local drug store and buy a massive amount of the Russell Stover eggs for super cheap on clearance.  We usually eat about 4 and then have the rest in a bag for most of the year.  You’d think we’d have learned our lesson by now, but it hasn’t happened yet.  This year however, a flavor jumped out at me and I couldn’t wait until after Easter to try it – key lime.  The package caught my attention because I am a large fan of lime flavored things.  I’ve lamented before the fact that green apple has been taking over lime as the go-to green flavor, so anytime I see something that’s still lime, I’m game.
