We Can Do It Better: Taco Bell Cheetos Burrito

It’s been a while since we last took on one of Taco Bell’s stoner-esque mashups, mostly because it’s been hard to keep up with them. Unfortunately for them, seems like their recipe devs may have hit a wall of some sort, given their latest limited edition menu item, the taco-burrito.

It’s just a rice-less burrito with some tortilla chips in it. Well done, lads.

A few of their other recent special products were a bit more inspired, however, such as the Cheetos burrito from mid-late 2016. For whatever reason, a bunch of random Cheetos mashup foods appeared on fast food menus, like the Cheetohs mac ‘n’ cheese sticks at Burger King, and Taco Bell also put out a Cheetos crunchwrap too. The burrito version meanwhile is the easiest to put together at home, provided you have some of the cheesy corn snacks on hand.

I’ve always been a fan of the whole “crunch inside of a sandwich” concept. Things like potato chips on sandwiches, corn chips inside of wraps, etc… It adds a little bit of satisfying texture difference when you’re plowing through that lunch of yours. If you know what I’m talking about and enjoy it, then you should definitely give this burrito a try (especially if you really like cheese).

If you need some review on putting together burritos, refer back to our original post on burrito-making 101. As usual, you can customize your burrito however you want, but the two main things you’re gonna need specifically here are some Cheetos and some queso sauce.

Cheetoh Burrito

  • Flour tortilla
  • 1-2 tbsp queso con salsa, or other cheese sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice
  • 1/4 cup cooked chicken/pork/meat or beans if you wanna go vegetarian
  • Chopped vegetables of your choice (We recommend peppers and tomatoes)
  • 1/2 cup Cheetos
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese, such as cheddar, colby, colby jack, etc…

Construct your burrito from the bottom up, slathering the tortilla with your queso sauce, then adding your rice layer, meat/bean layer, veggies, Cheetos, and then a topping of the shredded cheese. Stick it in the oven or toaster oven for about 1 minute to get the cheese all melty and good, and fold up.

Pro-Tips

  • If you’re feeling particularly hedonistic, add extra queso sauce on top of the shredded cheese. Cheese on cheese? Oh baby…
  • You may opt to place your Cheetos on top of the shredded cheese layer as the final step after removing it from the oven, instead of placing them under the cheese layer. By doing this they’ll stay crisper in the burrito, since sitting around on wet vegetables and meat does run the risk of them getting a little mushy if you don’t eat it immediately.
  • If you’re planning on going full-on neckbeard, make sure to wipe the Cheeto dust off your fingers before you tip your fedora.
