Smoothie Sunday: Strawberry Peach Mango Smoothie

Summer is here!  Which means that Smoothie Sunday is back!  I have to admit, I’m feeling a bit intimidated about coming up with 3 months’ worth of smoothies for a third year in a row.  But I shall do my best to bring you new smoothie ideas every Sunday.  I also admit that Smoothie Sunday season snuck up on me a bit this year and I wasn’t totally prepared, meaning I was a bit lacking in supplies when it came time to start making smoothies.  But we here at Poor Couple’s Food Guide are nothing if not thrifty and up for improvising.  So first smoothie up this season wasn’t as carefully planned out as last year’s…this one was inspired solely by what fruit was around the house.  Originally it was going to just be a peach mango smoothie, but I had some strawberries left from strawberry picking that had to be used before going bad, so in they went!  I also forgot to buy yogurt, so I didn’t include yogurt in the smoothie I made, but I’m including it in the recipe because there wasn’t enough smoothie without it.

The Snack Report: Dole Smoothie Shakers

Smoothie Sunday season is almost here!  I better get to work and start coming up with some new smoothie recipes!  In the mean time, I decided to ease into things by reviewing some smoothie products you can buy in stores.  First up is Dole Smoothie Shakers.  These seem to be the option for if you want a quick smoothie on the go since no blender is necessary.  There are seven flavors available (though I only saw two in the store I was in): blueberry banana, pineapple mango, strawberry raspberry, peach mango, strawberry, strawberry banana, and mixed berry.  I tried pineapple mango.  I went with that one because it also has carrot and sweet potato in it, and since I tried making my own carrot and sweet potato smoothies last year, I wanted to see how a different one would taste.  I also I just enjoy both pineapple and mango.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Is Bullshit OR How I Stopped Getting Canker Sores

Musings is an off-topic column featured on PCFG that touches on things that are tangentially related to eating or food or wellness, but don’t fit into the rest of the site. If you’re looking for creative writing, straight blogging, and general musings, then you’ve come to the right place! For all of our food coverage, click basically any other link on the site.

Food is awesome. Eating food is awesomer. Eating delicious food is awesomest. Know what’s not awesome? Frigging canker sores. Holy shit are they awful. There’s not many conditions out there which can bring you to tears just by chewing, but these mouth ulcers are more than capable of doing so. And when eating food becomes literally painful, you have a real problem.

Food 101: How To Make A Roast Chicken

Everyone likes chicken. That’s a fact of life. Even vegetarians like chicken, they’re just morally opposed the consumption of it (and even then it seems like most will admit chicken is the least morally objectionable of meats to consume). As far as I can tell there’s no religions specifically forbidding its consumption either. So yeah, chicken is like totally the best. And there’s a billion different ways to prepare it. We’ve talked about at least a hundred and fifty thousand of those ways, but today we’re gonna go back to where it all began and discuss the classic, basic dish of a simple roast chicken.

Youtube Video: Quiet Cooking – Fried Rice

So in case you haven’t heard, Poor Couple’s Food Guide is officially on Youtube now! We’ve already posted quite a few videos on there for you to enjoy, and look forward to getting our content to you in video form as well. BUT don’t worry! The Youtube channel is not going to be a replacement for PCFG on the web. Nothing will ever be exclusive to our videos, and we will continue to bring you a few posts per week like we always have. None of that will change! Our Youtube vids will simply be a supplement to the already existing content on the site, which will never go away. Which brings me to our latest video…

One of our series we’re debuting on the channel is a line we like to call Quiet Cooking. Ever feel the need for some nice, ambient, background noises? Some people take solace in the sounds of the kitchen, finding it to be very soothing. If you’re one of those people who just loves to sit back and enjoy some good environmental soundscapes like that, you’ll be pleased to know we here at PCFG are lookin’ out for you. These videos are not just for relaxing though! We’ll still use them as a means to give tips and tutorials on cooking, including a full recipe. So check out this premiere episode of Quiet Cooking. And if you’re the type of person into relaxation videos or ASMR or ambient noise, we do have an extended version of the video that’s a full 22 minutes long on our channel. Enjoy!
