Recipe Time! Strawberry Peanut Butter Toast
Okay, so this isn’t so much a recipe as it is me just sharing this idea with you, but I’ll write it out in recipe form anyway.
As Erik mentioned in his last post, breakfast is an often skipped meal, which is a shame since it’s an important way to get your day started and also has lots of yummy foods. Even faster than French toast is regular toast, which can be kind of boring to eat every day, but luckily there are lots of ways to easily fancy it up.
Tea Time: Garlic Tea
Despite the way it looks outside spring is around the corner, which means we’re in the last stretch of cold and flu season. Hopefully you’ll be lucky and make it out germ free. But if you happen to find yourself with a late season cold, garlic tea is a great way to help reduce the symptoms of your illness and perhaps even help you get over it faster. Before you go running away at the thought of drinking garlic, let me assure you that the garlic flavor is mild, and that it actually tastes similar to lemon tea.
Tea Time: Review Round-up
We’ve both been sidelined by a nasty cold this week (me the first half, Erik the second). That means we’ve both been drinking a lot of tea, when we were able to work up the energy. Tea is good all the time, but especially when you have a cold because the steam can help clear your nose, it can help soothe your throat, and it can help your insides feel nice and warm. Since I can’t taste any food well enough to write about it this week, I’ve decided to write up a review of some of my favorite teas that I’ve been drinking instead.
Food 101: How to Make Soup Yourself
I don’t know about you, but it’s been ridiculously and unnecessarily cold where I live this winter. When it’s so cold out, all I can think about is ways to keep warm. One nice, tasty way to keep warm is by eating soup. I fully admit to eating soup from a can on numerous occasions. But I also really enjoy making my own soup. Soup is one of those dishes that can seem kind of intimidating, but is actually pretty simple (At least to start. Once you feel more confident in your cooking abilities you can advance to fancy soups too). I’m going to show you the basic formula for soup making using the black bean soup I made for dinner the other night as an example.
Microwave Popcorn Made Better
Confession time: I’m a procrastination eater. Because you know, you can’t do work if you’re eating. Seeing as how it’s finals time at school, I’m currently doing a lot of procrastination eating in order to put off working on papers. You have to choose wisely in your procrastination eating choices however, since you just want to put off doing work, not put on 20 pounds. One good snack (and not just for procrastinating, just in general) is popcorn. Fresh popped popcorn smells wonderful, and is tasty too. Bonus: popcorn isn’t terrible for you. Using an air popper doesn’t take that long, but it can be surprisingly hard to find a good (and not crazy expensive) popcorn popper, plus, some people just don’t really have room for one in their kitchens. But never fear! It’s easy to make popcorn in the microwave (and I’m not talking about the prepackaged bags you buy at the store).
