The Snack Report: Cookies & Cream Pocky

I’m gonna let everyone in on a little secret here. I spent a large chunk of my childhood and early teens as a total weeaboo. You know, those dopey, white kids that obsess over everything Japanese because it’s the number one source of anime and video games in their narrow, youthful scope of the world. Fortunately I outgrew that archetype, and as an adult I have a modest appreciation for Asian culture in a more subtle, grown-up way. That said, I do have a soft spot for wacky Japanese stuff and when Meg and I hit up Asian markets once in a while to get  groceries, we do end up with our fair share of zany foods and snacks. See: everyone’s favorite stick-based snake, Pocky.

Plus come on, everyone likes Pocky, right?

A Merry Christmas From Poor Couple’s Food Guide!

From myself and Meg here at PCFG, we wish all our fans a Merry… no, we wish you a MIGHTY Christmas! This beautiful day happens but once a year, so enjoy it best as you can, whether you’re with family or friends or traveling or even if you have to work. Celebrate Jesus Christ’s awesome birthday party by making merry and taking in all the delicious foods of the season. If you’re Jewish, get some delicious Chinese food instead! And if you’re neither, well then just keep on keepin’ on!

We’ll resume our normal posting schedule sometime after New Year’s. In the mean time, we’ll at least be putting up a new Pizza Lab post, so look forward to that. But remember, today is but the first day of Christmas, among twelve! We hope you enjoy your Christmas vacation as much as we do, and look forward to getting some new projects going in 2016. Until then, have a Merry Christmas, a Happy Hannukah, a Cool Kwanzaa, and a Happy New Year!

The Cereal Report: Holiday Sprinkles Cookie Crunch

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

The other day we took a look at Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch, a pretty awesome, worthy cereal. General Mills releases it around Christmastime each year in tandem with another festively-themed breakfast food, Holiday Sprinkles Cookie Crunch. Unlike its brethren unfortunately, this one isn’t quite as good.

Obviously there’s been a stupid number of food companies taking advantage of the “limited edition” hype train the past couple of years, though I have to say that one niche was left out of the mix was Christmas editions. Especially cereals. Outside of Cap’n Crunch’s Christmas Crunch, there’s not really any Christmas-themed breakfast cereals I can think of. Lo and behold however, General Mills came to the rescue and added two special editions of two of their biggest IPs: Cinnamon Toast Crunch and Cookie Crisp. This review will focus on the former, which gave us Sugar Cookie Toast Crunch.
