The Snack Report: Mckenzie’s Pumpkin Jack Hard Cider

Halloween is less than a week away. We’re excited, you know it. If you’ve been with us from the beginning of the month, you’ll know I took to reviewing some seasonal hard ciders, the only perfect drink of the Fall (sorry pumpkin ale). While reviewing ciders this month, I decided to save the best for last. A cider so delectable, it’s strong and formidable, yet tastes reminiscent of liquid dessert. The last of our seasonal Fall cider reviews is McKenzie’s Pumpkin Jack Hard Cider.

Food 101: How To Make A Root Beer Float

Soda’s bad for you. That’s a fact of life, and more people need to realize that. It’s one of the biggest culprits behind why America has gotten so fat, considering the average American drinks over 40 frigging gallons per year. Considering each serving is a good 150-200 calories, there’s plenty of evidence for why people shouldn’t be drinking multiple cups of it per day. Hell it reminds me of a friend of mine who even into high school, ate his cereal in Pepsi instead of using milk, since he was vegan. Hooray, no animals were mistreated, you just consumed nearly a pound of sugar! But I digress, this post isn’t meant to be a soda-bashing post. Soda should be considered a treat, like a dessert. Like ice cream. Oh boy, here comes a segue!

Quick Recipe: Apple Cinnamon Pancakes

Apples are much-splendored Fall crop. They’re tart and sweet and the small ones are perfect for throwing at squirrels and ugly children. We’re lucky enough to have a tree in our yard, but if you’re not among the apple elite you can check out a local orchard to buy some, provided you can beat the yuppie crowds coming in droves from the city in attempts to recall what nature looks like. Either way, fresh apples are a treat every September and October. You can make cider out of them, but that takes all day. You can make a pie with them, but that’s not worth the effort involved. What can you do that doesn’t use too much of your precious, freshly-picked apples, but still puts them on gastronomical display to enjoy? Why not try some apple pancakes?

The Cereal Report: Quaker Oats Real Medleys

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

I started eating Quaker’s Real Medleys oatmeal not too long after it first came out, and I enjoy it. Well, not all the flavors, but most of them.  They’re my go-to instant oatmeal during oatmeal season.  They have more stuff in them (like dried fruit and nuts) than the regular packets of oatmeal, and I find them to be more filling.  However, this snack report is not about oatmeal.  It is in fact about the new cold cereal version of Real Medleys that Quaker has released.  Considering how much I enjoy the oatmeal, when I saw the new cereal I knew I wanted to try it out.  I got the cherry almond pecan flavor, but it also comes in peach apple walnut.

Smoothie Sunday: Pumpkin Peach Smoothie

Well, this is the last Sunday in September, which means by this time next week it will be October. Which also means it’s the start of pumpkin season!  Let this smoothie help you transition into fall.  I used the pumpkin similar to how I used the avocado in the avocado mango smoothie a couple of weeks ago.  And like that smoothie it came out pretty thick.  But it’s definitely yummy, and a nice intro into fall breakfasts.
