Smoothie Sunday: Cranberry Pear Smoothie

Cranberries are really good for you. They are chock full of antioxidants and they’re also great for your urinary tract health. They are also rather tart. They’re not really a fruit you can just eat out of hand as a snack. I really wanted to use them in a smoothie, but I knew I needed another fruit to temper the tart a bit. Pears seemed like the perfect fruit to do this since they could help add sweetness without adding a ton of flavor of their own. In the end I think the combination worked out really well, and it ended up being a great late summer/early fall smoothie.

Smoothie Sunday: Peanut Butter Blueberry Smoothie

I realize this smoothie is pretty similar to the peanut butter and jelly smoothie that I posted last year. But blueberry jelly is less popular than strawberry jelly, so I decided that it deserved its own post. The inspiration for this smoothie came from my putting blueberries on peanut butter toast. It’s very yummy, but it can be a bit tricky to eat. This smoothie has all the flavor without fear of blueberries rolling off of bread.

Smoothie Sunday: Strawberry Almond Peach Smoothie

Full confession: this was originally supposed to be a peach cobbler-like smoothie but the second peach I had got eaten before I made my smoothie. So I had to improvise. Luckily it still turned out really yummy. If you do want to make this a peach cobbler smoothie, just use 2 peaches and cut out the strawberries. Either way this will be a lovely late summer smoothie.

Smoothie Sunday: Pineapple Carrot Smoothie

While I was looking up carrot cake recipes to get ideas for my carrot cake smoothie I stumbled upon a few that contained pineapple. I was intrigued by this combination and figured it would work well for a smoothie too. While it is another carrot smoothie that was semi-inspired by carrot cake, it tastes different enough from the carrot cake smoothie thanks to the pineapple. The pineapple really adds a lovely citrus tang. Drink this smoothie and you won’t have to worry about getting scurvy and you’ll be able to see in the dark better.

Smoothie Sunday: Beet Smoothie

As mentioned in a previous post, I’m trying to work more veggies into my smoothies this year.  I decided to give beets a try, since, while they do have a certain earthiness about them, they also have a sweetness.  The main hassle with this smoothie is that you’ll need to roast your beets the night before since they can take a long time to fully cook.  Alternately you could use canned beets, but still without cooking them first you risk them retaining a bit of can flavor.  While this smoothie may not be the sweetest, between the beet and nuts it may be one of the healthiest.  And certainly one of the prettiest in color.
