The Cereal Report: Cap’n Crunch’s Sprinkled Donut Crunch
The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!
About a decade ago General Mills put out perhaps one of the most random cereals of all time, Cap’n Crunch Choco Donuts. It was comprised of a bunch of small, doughnut-shaped chocolate cereal pieces meant to resemble, um, donuts. It was aired as part of their “Oops” line, with the cereal mythos being that once in a while the Cap’n Crunch factory just screws up and puts out a brand new cereal by accident, such as the “Oops All Berries” cereal. At least the idea that they accidentally made a cereal all crunch berries made sense since they already existed, but the idea that their factory somehow randomly started making chocolate donuts instead of sweet cornmeal pillow things and fruity puffs was a little far-fetched even for dumb kid cereal marketing. Either way, from what I remember the cereal was kinda generic, not awful but not great. It was standard chocolate cereal.
However, apparently they decided to give it a sequel cereal ten years later, in an almost equally random fashion:
The Cereal Report: Cocoa Puffs With Stars

Cocoa Puffs is one of those cereals that we sort of take for granted, since it’s been around forever. Originally created by General Mills in the 1950s, it’s been around for over half a century. Probably everyone has had a bowl or two in their lives. It’s nothing fancy, just chocolate-flavored corn puffs. Interestingly enough, there really hasn’t been much evolution or many special editions of Cocoa Puffs, for at least the time I’ve been alive. But lo and behold, General Mills put out a new, limited edition (I think?) version of the cereal for the first time in a long time, called Cocoa Puffs With Stars. I say “I think” because it doesn’t really explicitly state it. It just sorta claims they’ll be orbiting Earth for a short time, or something, on the box.
Cheat Codes: Overnight Oatmeal
Anyone who knows me knows that I am not a morning person. At all. I enjoy my sleep, and I enjoy it well into the late hours of the morning. And those times I do have to get up early it takes me a long time to get going. So knowing my breakfast is ready and waiting for me when I get up is a load off. While there are some other types of breakfast that you can prepare in advance, today I’ll be tackling everyone’s favorite winter breakfast: oatmeal.
The Cereal Report: French Toast Crunch Returns At Last Pt. 2
I’m gonna tell you all a secret. Well, not actually a secret, but a fun fact. In my possession I have an original box of French Toast Crunch from circa 2005, before the cereal was discontinued. It is (was) one of my most prized possessions. That’s how much I love this stuff. The idea was to hang onto it and someday, for some momentous occasion like getting married or getting a house finally, we’d crack it open and chow down. And hopefully not develop some sort of foodborne illness.
Welp, no need for that anymore now that FTC is back! Hopefully by now, everyone who wants to has gotten their hands on a box of French Toast Crunch. If you’ve never tried it before, I absolutely, strongly recommend you do. Riding on the tail of Part 1, in which I simply reviewed it, I’m going to take this opportunity to expound on the history of French Toast Crunch itself here in Part 2.
The Cereal Report: French Toast Crunch Returns At Last Pt. 1
Ten years… it’s been almost ten long years since General Mills discontinued one of the greatest cereals of all time. A cereal which not only tasted great, but also had a really fun novelty and gimmick. A cereal which produced exceptional cereal-milk. And a cereal which was pretty good for you as far as sweet ones go. I speak of course of French Toast Crunch…
About one month ago, the big GM announced they had plans to resurrect the long-gone cereal, and at long last, French Toast Crunch is back on shelves. Words can’t express what a glorious time this is for mankind. Naturally, I sought it out as soon as possible because this was going to be one of the most important Cereal Report entries this website may ever see. We live on Long Island, and it took a couple weeks for it to make it here, but now it should be readily accessible in grocery stores like Path-Mark, Shop Rite, Waldbaum’s and others…
