The Cereal Report: Quaker Oats Real Medleys

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

I started eating Quaker’s Real Medleys oatmeal not too long after it first came out, and I enjoy it. Well, not all the flavors, but most of them.  They’re my go-to instant oatmeal during oatmeal season.  They have more stuff in them (like dried fruit and nuts) than the regular packets of oatmeal, and I find them to be more filling.  However, this snack report is not about oatmeal.  It is in fact about the new cold cereal version of Real Medleys that Quaker has released.  Considering how much I enjoy the oatmeal, when I saw the new cereal I knew I wanted to try it out.  I got the cherry almond pecan flavor, but it also comes in peach apple walnut.

Smoothie Sunday: Pumpkin Peach Smoothie

Well, this is the last Sunday in September, which means by this time next week it will be October. Which also means it’s the start of pumpkin season!  Let this smoothie help you transition into fall.  I used the pumpkin similar to how I used the avocado in the avocado mango smoothie a couple of weeks ago.  And like that smoothie it came out pretty thick.  But it’s definitely yummy, and a nice intro into fall breakfasts.

Smoothie Sunday: Cinnamon Apple Oatmeal Smoothie

The last oatmeal smoothie I made turned out really yummy, so I wanted to give another one a shot. Again, I used overnight oatmeal as a base.  This time I decided to use more traditional oatmeal additions in the form of cinnamon apple.  Since I don’t have a super-mega blender I knew that blending fresh apples would be rather difficult.  So instead I opted to use dried apples, rehydrated in the oatmeal overnight.  It worked out really well.  I also upped the apple flavor by adding applesauce.  Overall it was another successful oatmeal smoothie!

Recently, an Aldi supermarket opened nearby us and we’ve started doing a lot of grocery shopping there due to their super delightful prices. Recently we picked up the following cereal:

Much to my own pleasant surprise, this turned out to be one of my new favorite cereals, and not just because it only cost $2 bucks.

Smoothie Sunday: Avocado Mango Smoothie

As has been mentioned before here, I’m a big fan of avocados. They’re good for you, and taste yummy.  That being said, I don’t usually eat avocados for breakfast.  But smoothie Sunday seemed like a good chance to change that.  I added mango as a second flavor, since avocado and mango are paired in things like salsas and burritos.  The tang/acid of the mango helps cut through the creaminess of the avocado.  Since it’s so creamy I used the avocado like how I use the yogurt in most of my smoothies.
