Quick Recipe: Strawberry Shortcake Pancakes

These pancakes are a delicious way to add fresh strawberries into your breakfast. Shortcake is one of my favorite desserts of all time, so I made this recipe to change up the basic pancake formula to make them a bit sweeter and more buttery, since shortcake tends to have a higher fat content than other cakes. The strawberries themselves form a natural syrup with sugar added onto them, so this gets poured onto the tops, making everything delicious and berry-flavored.

Smoothie Sunday: Strawberry Kiwi Smoothie

I have to say, kiwi strawberry is one of my favorite fruit flavor combinations.  I greatly enjoy both strawberries and kiwis on their own, so combining them is magic.  It’s sweet, it’s tart and considering the health benefits of both, it’s incredibly good for you.  This is an especially good time of year to make smoothies featuring strawberries because you can get them nice and fresh from local farm stands or farmers’ markets.

Here's what you'll need.

Smoothie Sunday: Blueberry Peach Smoothie

Welcome to the second edition of Smoothie Sunday.  I stumbled upon this fruit combo accidentally last year when I went to make a blueberry strawberry smoothie and found the last of the strawberries had been eaten.  It ended up being a good thing though, since this quickly became one of my favorite smoothies.  I’m not even the biggest fan of peaches, but something about this combo just really works.

Smoothie Sunday: Mango Smoothie

It’s finally officially summer, and that means that fresh fruit is back in grocery stores and local farm stands!  There’s going to be lots of fruit options available throughout the coming months, and smoothies are just one way to feature them.  I thoroughly enjoy smoothies, but after having my wisdom teeth removed last summer and having to survive on liquid food for about a week and a half, I kind of lost interest in smoothies for awhile.  But this year I decided I’m going to jump back on the smoothie train and try to have at least one smoothie a week.  So I’ll share my smoothie of the week with you, and if you have any suggestions for new smoothie combos, feel free to leave them in the comments!

I decided to start with a mango smoothie because, well, I just really enjoy mango smoothies.  Mangos are one of those fruits that I always forget how much I like them until I eat them again.  Mangos are really yummy, but eating them can occasionally end with mango strands wedged between your teeth.  So smoothies are a great way to get that mango flavor without having to floss afterwards.

This is what you'll need.

The Cereal Report: Froot Loops Treasures

The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!

Froot Loops is a tragic cereal. Don’t get me wrong, I really like them, but they fall into that group of kid cereals that get a bad rep due to their fairly high sugar content. Some cereals are pretty stupendously caloriffic, but Froot Loops isn’t particularly bad, featuring only 150 calories per serving with milk. It’s not really that bad for you, especially considering the sugars themselves are just plain sugar, not high fructose corn syrup, so a lot of the stigma comes from the fact they are pretty damn sweet-tasting. And I suppose sweetness isn’t for everybody, so let the people who dislike flavor stick to their plain Cheerios, but do not hold it against those of us who do enjoy partaking in sugary cereals for breakfast. (Because guess what, when you add sugar and fruits to your plain cereal, you’re not really making them that less sugary than Froot Loops.)

But I must digress, Froot Loops caught my eye the other day in the store when I saw a new iteration of them, Froot Loops Treasures.
