Recipe Time: Garlic-ade / Garlic Lemonade!
As many of you know, Meg and I sold our delicious garlicade at the Long Island Garlic Festival last weekend. I know what you’re thinking, it sounds gross, but truth be told it actually tastes really good. And that’s not just because Meg and I love garlic either, it’s legit yummy. As one customer put it, “It tastes like lemonade, but it smells like grandma’s house!” Actually that’s probably the best way to describe it since it does carry that heavy pungent garlic stank we all know and love, but has most of the flavor of lemonade. If you’ve ever made lemon garlic chicken in the oven, this tastes pretty much like the juice in the pan, only sweet and cool and refreshing! Don’t be a pansy-ass, try it! You might like it!
PCFG Cooking Demonstration at the Long Island Garlic Festival!
As mentioned, the two of us will be at the Long Island Garlic Festival, this year! After going last year as consumers, we decided going as vendors this year would be a great opportunity to share some of our yummy food with everybody. In case you’re wondering, here’s what’s on the menu:
Garlic Infused Popcorn – Good old-fashioned popcorn cooked in and with garlic and garlic spices. Has a light garlic flavor, and slight saltiness to it, and is perfect for snacking.
Garlic Lemonade – So much better than it sounds in your head. The cooking process cooks the flavors together, making for its own unique taste, instead of just tasting like garlicky lemonade.
Garlic Naan Flatbread (only available at PCFG Cooking Demo) – Traditional Indian flatbread with a garlic paste kneaded directly into the dough before grilling. If you’ve ever had naan, you can imagine how good this is.
The Cereal Report: Millville Blueberry Crunch
The Cereal Report is a column in which PCFG conducts various cereal reviews, of new or limited products, as well as providing brief backgrounds on the cereal. Cereal is delicious and fairly cheap as far as meals go. Everyone should eat cereal!
Recently, an Aldi supermarket opened nearby us and we’ve started doing a lot of grocery shopping there due to their super delightful prices. Recently we picked up the following cereal:
Much to my own pleasant surprise, this turned out to be one of my new favorite cereals, and not just because it only cost $2 bucks.
Quick Recipe: Homemade Fried Mac ‘n’ Cheese Bites
Of all the ridiculous “hey let’s fry that!” foods that popped up over the past decade or two, mac ‘n’ cheese bites is my favorite. They have the cheesy, creamy goodness of macaroni and cheese, but self-contained in a nice crunchy package. The salt in the batter and as a garnish brings out that cheese flavor even more so.
Obviously this does require some prep in advance. Give yourself an hour since these need to sit in the fridge to firm up for that long. OR if you want to be crafty, make a bunch of mac ‘n’ cheese ahead of time, stick it in the fridge, and enjoy these whenever you want at a later time! The longest part is making the original macaroni and cooling it together, so if you already have it congealed in your refrigerator, you can pop ’em out and cook up a batch in like 10 minutes flat!
The Snack Report: Pocari Sweat
One of our more popular societal tropes in the past decade or so has been the whole ‘wacky Japanese food’ thing. On one hand, it’s a matter of cultural differences since our food and its packaging are probably very alien to Asian countries, but on the other hand there is definitely lots of fun to be had with Engrish and other examples of Asian to English translation gone awry.
That’s how I ended up coming to start drinking sweat. That’s right I enjoy drinking sweat.
