Smoothie Sunday: Watermelon Kiwi Smoothie

As soon as I saw the watermelon in my kitchen I knew I wanted to try making a watermelon smoothie.  I also knew I wanted to have some other fruit in it.  After some research I decided to use kiwi.  Also, I had an extra kiwi from the kiwi strawberry smoothie and wanted to use it before it went bad.  The combination was really nice and refreshing.

In retrospect I realize this smoothie is better as a snack/refresher because it wasn’t as filling as most of the smoothies I’ve made so far.  But it’s still really yummy and worth making.

Watermelon Kiwi Smoothie:

  • 2 cups watermelon cubes (seeds removed, if any)
  • 1 kiwi, skin removed
  • 4 ice cubes
  • ¼ cup milk
  • Salt
  • Dash of cayenne pepper (optional)

Blend the first 3 ingredients until smooth.  Add the milk and pinch of salt (and cayenne if adding).  Blend until well mixed, tasting along the way.  Once everything is well blended pour into a tall glass and enjoy!

I didn’t add sugar to this smoothie because the watermelon was plenty sweet enough.  But you can certainly add sugar if you need too.  Also, the cayenne adds a nice little kick to counter all the sweetness.

Just a warning, this smoothie is more watery than most because well, watermelon is just very watery.  It has water in its name.  I found that I needed to drink it fairly quickly, or else it started to separate, with the water/juice part sinking to the bottom and the more icy part floating on top.
