The Snack Report: Brownie Brittle
After a month of eating Christmas cookies, I’m sure everyone is tired of them by now. No? Yeah, I’m not really either…but it’s still nice to have some variety in your sweet snacks, right? So what should you turn to for cookie respite? How about some Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle? The snack up for review today falls into the, “why didn’t I ever think of that?” category. Brownie Brittle is so simple, but so tasty. It’s pretty much exactly what it sounds like – super flat, crisp brownie broken up into pieces like brittle. It also has chocolate chips in it.

Apologies in advance – all the pictures are yoinked from the web, I forgot to take pictures myself before finishing them.
According to the Brownie Brittle website it’s been around since 1992, but I only encountered it for the first time a few months ago, when one of my classmates brought a bag to class to share. Brownie Brittle is pretty much the perfect combination of brownie and cookie/cracker. I have a bit of a confession to make: I’m not the biggest brownie fan in the world. I’m not even the biggest chocolate fan around, generally preferring my chocolate in candy form and not in other things (ice cream, cake, etc.). And I still enjoyed Brownie Brittle. There’s something about the chocolate flavor and the crunch of the brittle that’s just really appealing. It’s the perfect bite-sized snack; it’s nice and chocolate-y, but not heavily rich like some regular brownies are. As an extra bonus, Erik and I found out that the crumbs leftover in the bag are really good in milkshakes. They would probably be good just sprinkled on ice cream as well.
The only flavor I’ve tried is the chocolate chip one, but Brownie Brittle also comes in mint chocolate chip, salted caramel, and toffee crunch. I’m really intrigued by the salted caramel one, and think I need to get my hands on some soon. All the flavors sound really good though, and I would be interested to hear from anyone who has tried them. The only real downside is that it can be a bit on the expensive side depending on where you buy it. But as long as you don’t eat the whole bag in one sitting it should last you long enough to even out.
